Magnetic field intensity or magnetic field strength is defined in Tesla (symbol T) and named after the scientist Nikola Tesla. It is also known as "magnetic flux density" or "magnetic induction". Magnetic field strength was formerly expressed in Gauss (symbol G) as well, a number 10.000 times larger than Tesla. 
Since intensity is very relevant for pulsed electromagnetic field therapy devices, and because micro Tesla and milli Tesla are very often confused (milli is a factor 1000 x larger than micro), hereunder is a table showing the differences between these values. PEMF therapy can only be effective if the field strength of the pulsing electromagnetic signal is sufficiently powerful to penetrate deep enough inside the cells and bones to cause the desired effect. Thus the applied energy levels must be sufficiently high, or else only a minimal and superficial effect will occur.

PEMF Piezo-electric effect in bones

In 1956 two Japanese scientists discovered the so called piezo-electric effect of bones. By mechanically bending a bone and measuring an electrical voltage between two electrodes attached over the bone, they proved that electrical properties exist inside bones. 
An example of the piezo electric effect is your own alarm clock. Your clock contains a piezo crystal with an electrical connection at both sides. When your clock reaches the preset wake-up time, an oscillating electrical voltage is applied to the crystal causing small mechanical movements, resulting in the sound you hear.
When a pulsing magnetic field penetrates into a bone the opposite effect takes place. The pulsing magnetic effects cause tiny mechanical movements, resulting in small electrical currents inside the bones and cells. These micro currents are responsible for the beneficial effects occurring inside the body, and if the intensities of the pulsing magnetic fields are too low to sufficiently penetrate deep inside the body, no effect will take place!
The only way of proving if the field completely penetrates the body is to check if it is still possible to detect a pulsing magnetic field at the opposite side of the body. E.g. if the field is applied at the back it must be possible to show its existence still at the chest, otherwise it can never penetrate deep enough into the body! 
The human body is unable to feel the magnetic pulses themselves but only the effects they cause. You can, however, easily detect a sufficiently strong pulsed magnetic field by holding a static magnet in your hand above the applicator containing the coils. You can now clearly feel the pulses in your hand with exactly the same pulse repetition rate (frequency) generated by the device. This effect happens because the pulsing magnetic fields distort the static magnetic field of the magnet, resulting in the pulsing movements you can easily feel in your hand.

Why do some companies talk about the intensity of the earth magnetic field? Nonsense!

Claiming that weak natural magnetic fields work better than stronger fields is not only pure scientific nonsense but also clearly misleading.

Here is the proof:

The geomagnetic field strength varies over the surface of the earth. The intensity of the magnetic field over South America has a minimum strength of 22 micro Tesla and reaches a maximum of 67 micro Tesla over the south of Australia. How will a device generating only 70 micro Tesla perform according the claims of such manufacturers??? Your guess is as good as ours!
Attempts are made to scare potential customers by misquoting the World Health Organization that indicates magnetic field strengths for continuous magnetic fields, e.g. radiated by power lines. People making this claim clearly have no clue about the differences between a continuous magnetic field and a pulsed electromagnetic field, the words ‘magnetic field’ being the only thing they have in common!
A micro Tesla device has the same intensity as an air-conditioner, fridge, mixer etc. and offers no more than a placebo effect.
PEMFT devices which are only able to generate low intensity fields (in the micro Tesla range) require very sensitive electronic magnetic field detectors in order to show that some magnetic field is actually generated at all, for this field cannot be detected otherwise. These magnetic field strengths are unable to penetrate into the body more than an inch as will become clear by reading the following explanation. 
The pulsing magnetic intensity decreases quickly with distance, according to the so-called "Inverse Square Law". If you move away from the pad, the actual magnetic field intensity drops by the square of the distance. 
This means that while you have certain field strength directly at the surface of the pad (red in the picture to the left), the magnetic field strength drops fast as you move away from it. If the separation distance increases by a factor of 2, the field strength decreases by a factor of 4. If the separation distance increases by a factor of 3, the field strength decreases by a factor of 9. If the separation distance increases by a factor of 4 the field strength decreases by a factor of 16!

This becomes clear when we look at the illustration: All the energy passes through the lowest yellow area because it is close to the pad. When we double the distance away from the pad just 25% of the energy passes through a similar yellow area. Now double the distance again and see how little of the original energy passes through a similar yellow area at the top of the picture (around 11%).
Therefore it is crucial to have sufficient pulsed magnetic energy available from the start, or it will do nothing deep inside the body, an absolutely necessary factor for achieving successful PEMF applications!  
It is for this reason that all different PEMF8000 models manufactured by our company generate magnetic field strengths up to the milli Tesla range. This of course requires a much superior engineering design than required of PEMFT devices that are only able to generate low micro Tesla levels.

That's why; right here and right now, we are going to clear the fog
surrounding what makes one PEMF machine better than another - so you can make an informed
decision as a doctor or patient looking to experiment with one for yourself.
Why PEMF Works
To make a wiser buying decision, it helps to know what's happening when you
use a PEMF device. We're going to go over the basics so you have a clearer
understanding of what is really going on during your PEMF treatment. After you know, you may find it's easier to get a sense of which kind of PEMF device will work best for you.
We'll keep this short, sweet and simple so remember to take mental notes because
they'll help you when we start comparing the different machines.

The first PEMF device was called a 'lightning' machine for a reason! PEMF
works because it charges up your cells with electricity. Problems that the PEMF
treats such as chronic pain can only happen in areas of low voltage in the body. That is,
places where the cells are low on energy for any number of reasons (injury, fatigue,
illness, etc).
A PEMF machine sends extra electrical charge to those low energy areas using
magnetic fields to carry it into the body. Basically, the device send a 'package' of
energy into the low energy areas - think of the magnetic field as the envelope and the
electricity as the message! And when the cells receive that electricity they immediately use it to heal the body - and relief can happen very quickly (within seconds to minutes)
depending on the device.

What makes the PEMF8000 device different than the others?

There are only two big differences between PEMF machines:

1) How much electricity you get with each pulse.
There are two types of PEMF device: High Power and Low Power. Each gets
results but performs best in different situations. You can tell the difference between
machines by how many 'Tesla per pulse' it has - more Tesla equals more power!
High Power devices like the PEMF8000 range up in the milliTesla (mT) per
pulse. They make a loud 'pop' sound during treatment because of an internal 'spark'

2) How fast each pulse enters the body.
